Love this tiny place. They constantly serve quality food. I have been a customer almost twenty years. Beef Lo Mein is wonderful!

Friendly folks and reasonable prices (5.25 lunch combos and 8.25 dinner combos which include fried rice, soup, egg roll, and a few pieces of sweet and sour chicken). They basically have Americanized Chinese dishes as well as Vietnamese classics. Their egg rolls are great-- super crispy, lots of pork and vegetable filling. They have decent beef... Some places it can be tough and gristly but it is pretty good here.

I wasn't sure what to expect. I saw the "Super Buffet" down the street and reminded myself why I don't go to many Chinese restaurants. I figured TaiPei might be different. It was, the back of the menu (being Japanese, I tend to start at that part), had VietNamese selections, correctly written and all. That made me think that they were VietNamese, not Taiwanese, as TaiPei would suggest. Forgive me, but I didn't like their lunch specials. I tend not to eat the American-ized food very often and for the price, a Shrimp dish was all I trusted. (Maybe, I shouldn't tell you about beef and Chinese restaurants, especially when it's really inexpensive.) I ordered Hot and Sour Soup and (Crab) Rangoon. Both women were friendly. The seating was tight. When the second person of the party behind me arrived, I moved forward, but it felt as if we would collide at any moment. The restaurant was about half full. They brought the soup and some chow mein noodles (it seems funny to write "mein" and "noodles" since they mean the same thing) almost immediately. The soup was okay but not really spicy hot, nor was it really sour. There was hardly any tofu in it, but there were many other ingredients including pork. The (Crab) Rangoon wasn't much later in arriving. It seemed to have a lot of wrapper and not much cream cheese and only a hint of crab. I guess that's why they refer to them as "Rangoon". Why Chinese restaurants have a treat based on a city in Burma/Myanmar is anyone's guess. I lopped off the extra wrapper and they weren't bad but I swear the oil in the fryer needed to be changed. They could be frying their General Tso's Chicken in the same fryer, I'm not sure. It wasn't bad food, but it wasn't great food that would compel me to return.

Tai Pei is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. That said, it's probably not what some people are looking for. Owned by the same family for as long as I've been going there, the service is good and the food is simple and delicious, from the rice and soup to the entrees. Very reasonably priced. Seating is pretty limited and hours are bizarre and change often, so be prepared to either find the place packed or not open at all.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city.
